Want to stop trans murders?

Stop shaming men who like us, stop calling them gay when they’re not, stop watching dudes play us on screen.

Yes, it’s actually a deeply complicated and nearly intractable set of issues at the dangerous intersection of race, class, homophobia, misogyny, and economics, but the thing that most people can DO, right now, no matter who or where they are, is really that simple: stop shaming the men who like us, stop letting us be portrayed by men.

After years of thinking on this issue, listening to survivors of assault, reading the reports, talking to countless trans women/sex workers, that’s the heart of this. Straight men kill trans women partners because other people, and culture as a whole, says it’s gay, less masculine, to be with us.

So shut it down. Shut down every person or conversation that claims trans women are “really” men, every media depiction with men playing us.

If y'all have other ideas, I’d love to hear them. I’ve seen endless “stop trans murders” posts but no suggestions as to how, or any accountability.

Diverse portrayals of trans women in media. No more “man in dress” gags, no more “tragic man who wants desperately to be a woman” played by Eddie Redmayne/Jared Leto/etc.

One of the most important things is proper normalization of trans women (and people, but especially women who are at the highest risk for violence). People associate images with concepts and real people with things they’ve seen.

We need trans women in art, in novels, in plays, movies, tv shows. Trans women laughing, crying, dating, breaking up. Pursuing careers, staying home with their families and their beloved children.

Stop seeing them as jokes and start seeing them as people.

Anyway, happy international women’s day to Black Trans women! The women whose womanhood is constantly mocked and erased, the women who have been fighting for all the rest of us marginalized women since day one, and the women who deserve to be honored most of all today!

I hope that you get a chance to rest today, and that you are safe. ❤

I wanted to include Miss Major’s GoFundMe on this, she’s still not even at 50%, please donate! https://www.gofundme.com/MsMajorRetirement

Without Black Trans Women white gays and the LGBT community would not have the rights we have today. Every single one of us should really take a moment to thank them today.

“Imagine if people had been going ‘don’t fight hate with hate’ back when Hitler was around.”

Fam…let me tell you bout Poland.

Let me tell you about how the entire rest of Europe sat ack and watched the invasion of Poland because they thought it would be “improper” to send military aid. How they were unwilling to enforce the treaties that Germany was breaking, because that would make them “just as bad.” They sat back and wrote strongly worded letters while fascists grew in power because they didn’t want to dirty their hands. They thought reasonable discussion and politics would be enough to stop a fascist dictator from rising to power.

Spoiler alert: it wasn’t enough.

like yes, people literally did try that argument then too.

Everywhere there’s fascists there are fascist apologists hiding under the guise of pacifism, ready to enable their shit and demonize resistance.
